Our nursery children took part in a range of fun activities to celebrate World Book Day last week, including dressing up as their favourite characters and attending a reading session in the library at the main school.
Alongside the school’s Reception class, the children met with author Margaret Bateson-Hill and enjoyed an interactive storytelling workshop. They participated in her storytelling through singing, actions, using props and clapping.
Margaret read her book ‘Five Little Ducks’ to the class, alongside a duck of her own. The children were fully engaged in the session, singing along with her, after quickly picking up the words.
Book week is a firm favourite for many children and staff, and it has been wonderful to see the children getting involved in the week’s activities. Reading is such an influential aspect of a child’s development – escaping to other worlds, developing language, acquiring knowledge or simply learning to take time out. It brings children ever closer to how humans think and feel. It has been brilliant to see everyone participate in the activities.
