We hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far. Here at the nursery we love reading and celebrate this by posting our book of the week for everyone to see. Preschool children are developing their listening skills and patience when sitting together and listening to room leader Denise read them a story. They show a great interest during story time and love seeing the illustrations, especially those with textured pages. The children have also had the opportunity to visit the school library to read new books.
The nursery has a range of books which coincide with what the children may be learning about during this time. Children are also welcome to bring their own book to read with the class.
Throughout the summer term, the children have been reading ‘What’s the time, Wilfred Wolf?’ by Jessica Barrah, as they have been beginning to learn about time, routine and why it is important to know and recognise different timings.
Another favourite includes ‘Sharing a Shell’ by Julia Donaldson. This book taught our preschoolers the importance of sharing and also allowed for some sensory fun as the illustrations were covered in glitter.
One of our pupils kindly brought in ‘The Koala who Could’. This is a fantastic rhyming book about overcoming worries and dealing with change. This is a great book for the children to read, as many will be moving up to Reception soon.
It is important for children’s development for them to listen to and join in with stories and when reading one-to-one and in small groups. Early literacy skills are rooted in children’s enjoyable experiences from birth of gesturing, talking, singing, playing, reading and writing.
